ZEISS India has inaugurated a state-of-the-art AI research facility at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, targeting breakthrough solutions in ophthalmology. Supported by the Spectrum Lab in the Department of Electrical Engineering, this collaboration is poised to offer doctors cutting-edge tools for early detection and improved patient outcomes.

“We are empowering Indian researchers with advanced resources and real-world applications. We aim to drive global breakthroughs in eyecare technology while strengthening India’s position as a hub for scientific excellence,” said Ashish Modi, Head of the Centre for Application Research India, ZEISS India.

The lab will explore AI-driven diagnostic methods, potentially reducing the burden of vision impairments worldwide. This aligns well with doctors’ growing focus on streamlined processes, increased accuracy, and timely interventions for better patient care. In addition, ZEISS will sponsor 6 MTech students for the next 3 years, focusing on signal processing, AI, and data science, further fueling research in these critical areas.

By fostering an environment for industry-academia synergy, ZEISS and IISc aim to create cost-effective, accessible solutions that can be scaled globally. The initiative underscores the significance of sustained partnerships between private firms and research institutes in shaping the future of healthcare.
