In a vital step to control the spread of Mpox, UNICEF has issued an emergency tender to procure Mpox vaccines. This tender will ensure immediate access to vaccine and scale up production to potentially provide 12 million doses by the end of 2025, by working together with Africa CDC, GAVI and other partners. Mpox outbreak is a public health emergency declared by the Africa Centre for Disease Control and prevention (CDC) & World Health Organisation (WHO). Democratic Republic of the Congo is at the center of this outbreak with more than 18,000 suspected cases and 629 deaths, 80% fatalities are children. “A swift, coordinated, and equitable response is critical to controlling the current mpox emergency and preventing future ones,” said Dr Maria Van Kerkhove, WHO incident manager for the global mpox response.
