ICMR to Launch India’s First Evidence-Based Antibiotic Guidelines for Respiratory Infections and Pneumonia

on

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is developing India's first evidence-based guidelines on the empirical use of antibiotics for upper respiratory infections, fever and community-acquired pneumonia. The guidelines will be based on systematic reviews and meta-analyses of scientific literature, evaluated according to the GRADE (Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation) methodology to provide unequivocal and actionable recommendations for health care providers.

Researchers are being invited to contribute via Expressions of Interest (EoI).

This groundbreaking initiative will answer important clinical questions, including ideal time to initiate, switch or discontinue empirical antibiotic therapy and the choice of antibiotic class. The goal of this program is to enhance antibiotic stewardship and clinical outcomes nationwide.
