Three months ago, I experienced severe pain from hip to toe on the left leading to Neurogenic Intermittent Claudication. A hospital near my residence at Navi Mumbai started treatment with painkillers and physiotherapy. As there was no reduction in pain even after a month of daily treatment, I was referred to a pain management consultant (PMC) in the same hospital, who said only interventional therapy like steroidal injection or RFA would alleviate the pain as the MRI was showing deep foraminal stenosis at the S1 nerve root due to serious disc herniation. However, there were conflicting opinions among the orthopaedic consultant, therapists and the (PMC) on the mode of treatment ahead, for alleviating my pain and restore my mobility. At this time an 82-year-old patient who had a similar condition as mine described above, gave me the reference of one Dr. Amit Sharma, Spine Surgeon in Mumbai area, who had carried out disc implant on him by means of MIS, 5 months ago, and has since then been able to live an active and pain-free life. On my first appointment at a hospital in Mumbai, Dr. Amit Sharma explained me clearly in a convincing manner the severity of the foraminal nerve stenosis which usual therapies cannot bring back herniated disc especially when a significant portion of it might have even sequestrated. His patient centric approach was especially visible from his briefing that his approach would be first lumbar de-compression and followed by only if necessary, disc implant through MIS that gives a near permanent solution. Dr. Amit Sharma successfully performed on me the de-compression and the disc implant. I was able to stand pain free in about 24 hours into the surgery and was discharged in 4 days time. More than his professional capability as a spine surgeon, his concern on the patient’s well being after surgery has been his prime importance. This is what distinguishes Dr. Amit Sharma, as a hard-to-find unique spine surgeon in our country. I am truly grateful for his broad-minded approach by means of easy accessibility to him through mobile communication, before and after surgery, for anything concerning my painful condition and and has been prompt in replying to my queries and doubts amidst his busy surgery schedules. A small update. Today's (27th July, 2025) Mumbai Mirror cover page featured a photo of Dr. Amit Sharma playing 🎷 amongst others of his peers in the same profession, which brought to light that he is not only good at working with surgical instruments but also with musical instruments. It was a delightful moment to happen to see my surgeon on the front page of news media.

It's near to Charni road station. Easy to find clinic's location. Receptionist is also polite. What can I write about Dr. Amit Sharma, I felt very happy just seeing him. He first listened to me completely and then explained everything that could have been done earlier and then he started the next treatment. From the beginning, he used to talk on the phone, whenever I called him, he would answer, and if he was working, he would call and answer later.
